The Ting Tings BioBand Members:
Current Record Label: Columbia Records UK

City of Origin: Leigh, Great Manchester, England

Genre: Indie pop, alternative rock, dance-punk, new wave, post-punk revival

Origin of the Band Name: The name stems from a Chinese college of Katie White's who once said that the name "The Ting Tings" sounds like a Mandarin pronunciation of "an old bandstand". One of the most common Chinese characters pronounced "Ting" means "listen".

History: Jules De Martino met Katie White while she was at Leeds University. De Marino later moved to Manchester to form a band called Dead Eskimo, which split after a quick run.

Both Katie White and Jules De Martino and grown jaded with the music industry, and their trust in others was waning. With this notion in common, the pair formed The Ting Tings. They started out playing private parties at Islington Mill in Salford. These gigs soon became popular, with many people, including record producers, vying for tickets.

The group soon began gaining exposure through BBC and other UK media groups. Their first single was a double-A side featuring That's Not My Name and Great DJ, followed shortly thereafter by their second single, Fruit Machine. They quickly became on frequent rotation for various radio stations in the UK and DJs began playing their songs frequently.
